Kon-Boot (aka kon boot, konboot) is an application which will silently bypass the authentication process of Windows based operating systems. Without overwriting your old password! In other words you can login to your Windows profile without knowing your password. Easy to use and excellent for tech repairs, data recovery and security audits. Fast, tiny and gets your job done!

General requirements:Pentium III compatible processor, 100MB free space on the hard drive. USB flash drive (prefered USB pendrive size is 16GB), keyboard. Compatibile BIOS version. Windows system is required for installer to run. USB flash drive is required for the UEFI version to work. Internet connection is required for the installer to work. Kon-boot can be only installed by using the original installer. One kon-boot license permits the user to install kon-boot on only one USB device (USB pendrive).

Not supported:Disk encryption, secure boot must be disabled., tablets and tablet hybrids, multiple operating systems installed on target computer, 3rd party loaders are supported, kernel debuggers, virtualization software (VMware, QEMU, VirtualBox) is not supported. CD and Floppy versions are deprecated.

Since version 2.7 kon-boot CD version is no longer available. We have left the old .iso images just for compatibility purposes. All versions starting from kon-boot 2.7 can be installed only on USB media.

Important:Since kon-boot 2.7 there is a new feature present called automatic powershell script execution. This feature is present only in COMMERCIAL LICENSES (UEFI mode only (Windows 8 x64 / Windows 10 x64)).

Since version 2.7 kon-boot can be installed only by using our GUI installer. Internet connecton is required for installer to work. Please note that all other installation options like CD installation are depracated (older kon-boot version is included in the package for compatibility reasons or in case of temporary lack of Internet connection).

Starting from version 2.7 (commercial edition only) kon-boot allows user to run automatic powershell script just after the boot of target operating system. Powershell script of user choice is being run with full system rights. This gives excellent and very powerful opportunity for the forensics team to gather all the necessary data from the target system. Right now the feature works only in UEFI mode and on Windows 8 / Windows 10 systems (x64).

Personal licenses does not offer online authorization bypass on Windows 10 systems. However user can still access the system as local administrator. In fact in the kon-boot v2.5 administrator account can be added automatically, as presented in the following scenario:

If you account is an online (live) Windows 10 account and you have a commercial Kon-Boot license (commercial kon-boot licenses allow to bypass Windows 10 online/live passwords (UEFI)) you can bypass the Windows HELLO authorization as well.

Please note: You may only see this screen when you are booting from external media ie. Kon-Boot USB. This is because of the TPM chip (Trusted Platform Module) which will detect changes to the system boot sequence. This will lead to change in the TPM's PCR values, and in the result TPM will not unseal the VMK (Volume Master Key).

Please verify you have administrator access on the Windows installation machine, the lock error may be caused by either lack of administrator rights or different process (like antivirus) blocking access to usb device.

Easy2Boot (E2B) is popular multiboot USB solution that also contains agFM and Ventoy. It supports both Legacy and UEFI.Simply copy on your bootable ISO files to the E2B USB drive and boot! Boot to DOS, Linux, Windows Install ISOs (XP>Win11),automate Windows installs, WIM files, VHD files, images of flash drives, Linux ISO+persistence, etc.

Step 2 After burning, insert it into locked windows device, then press F12 or ESC to enter bios menu for most device, follow the on-screen instructions to enter it. After enter it, using arrow key to select boot tab and boot device priority to set your bootable USB/CD/DVD, and press F10 to save and exit.

We already explained how to install Windows To Go. I think every admin should have a USB stick with Windows 8 and all the tools required to get an unbootable PC running again. Windows To Go has become an indispensable tool for me.

I think recovery boot systems such as Kon-Boot and the Trinity Rescue Kit have a hard time to come. Windows To Go is so much more powerful. You can essentially use any tool that runs on Windows 8. You can even easily repair systems that are protected with BitLocker. And, if a tool is missing, you download it with the web browser of your choice or connect to your Dropbox account to get all you need.

If you have laptop users who seldom come to the office, you might offer them this backup option. This would allow them to restore their laptop with a pre-configured image when they messed up their installation but are too far away from the office to bother you.

Another problem that you might encounter if you want to boot up Windows To Go on a relatively new PC is that the computer ignores the USB drive and boots up from the internal drive. In that case, you might have to disable the boot options Secure Boot and UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface). Of course, you also have to ensure that your USB drive comes before the internal system drive in the boot drive priority order.

So i attempted to restart the process and install a clean copy. Now i get an error that says boot device failed, and when i attempt to book from an efi file, it doesnt recognize the volume on the usb disk ?

BlueScreenv3.2 (November 1, 2006)This screen saver not only accurately simulates Blue Screens, butsimulated reboots as well (complete with CHKDSK), and works on WindowsNT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Server 2003 and Windows 95 and 98.

PsToolsv2.48 (October 12, 2021)The PsTools suite includes command-line utilities for listing theprocesses running on local or remote computers, running processesremotely, rebooting computers, dumping event logs, and more.

The following are requirements for installing this role, depending on whether you choose the default installation (both Deployment Server and Transport Server), or only the Transport Server role service.

For Windows Server 2008: The only prerequisite is that you must be a member of the Local Administrators group on the server to install Transport Server. Also note that a PXE provider is not installed with Transport Server, so you must create a custom PXE provider to network boot.

For Windows Server 2008 R2: You must be a member of the Local Administrators group to install Transport Server. In addition, if you are using Transport Server to network boot, your environment must contain DHCP (Windows Server 2008 R2 contains a PXE provider, which allows you to network boot).

Windows Deployment Services MMC snap-in - Provides an easy way to manage images, computers, and common server settings. You can perform almost all tasks from the MMC snap-in (for example, you cannot prestage client computers). Note that the snap-in is not available when you install only the Transport Server role service.

You can run Windows Deployment Services on Hyper-V virtual machines. Depending on the capacity of your server running Hyper-V, you can install, configure and use Windows Deployment Services. You can also create a virtual machine to act as a client machine when building and testing your deployment images. This is especially useful for building your custom images. Note, however, that the performance will often be degraded, particularly during the Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) download phase. This phase is very resource-intensive and may fail if insufficient resources are available on your server running Hyper-V.

You can manage Windows Deployment Services remotely by installing the Windows Deployment Services server role on a local server and then using that server to connect to the remote server in the data center or you can use the Windows PowerShell cmdlets for Windows Deployment Services to manage a remote server.

When using the Dynamic Driver Provisioning (DDP) feature on a WDS server running Windows Server 2012 if you attempt to add a driver to a Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 boot.wim you may receive the following error when running the "Add driver packages to image" wizard:

This is a known issue related to DISM version included with Windows Server 2012 that is used by WDS to service images. This version of DISM supports servicing Windows Server 2012 and earlier boot images but does not support later versions of boot images. You can resolved this issue by upgrading your WDS server to Windows Server 2012 R2 which contains a DISM version that supports servicing Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 boot.wim's or you can install the Windows 8.1 ADK and manually add the driver to the boot.wim. For instructions for how to add drivers, see Add and Remove Drivers Offline Using DISM 2ff7e9595c
